Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
We offer specialist positive behaviour intervention support services consistent with NDIA and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) requirements. We follow a systematic and rigorous process of conducting functional behaviour assessments (FBA), developing, implementing, and evaluating behaviour support plans (BSP). Our approach is focused on improving the quality of life of our clients while eliminating or decreasing the interfering behaviours and need to use restrictive interventions. We empower our clients, carers and support staffs with critical functional skills that lead to lasting positive behavioural changes and improved quality of life.
Our practice framework of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is deeply inspired by the Australian Governments definition of positive behaviour support as described in the National Framework of the Reduction and Elimination of Restrictive Practices (2014) ‘‘the integration of the contemporary ideology of disability service provision with the clinical framework of applied behaviour analysis. Positive behaviour support is supported by evidence encompassing strategies and methods that aim to increase the person’s quality of life and reduce challenging behaviour.” We are committed to serving individuals of all abilities and diagnoses requiring behaviour support interventions and plans in Victoria, ACT and Queensland.
Applied Behaviour Analysis
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is a science of ‘behaviour change’ with a focus on the application of behavioural principles to improve the socially significant issues such as challenging behaviours and learning ( Baer, Wolf & Risely, 1968)
Our behaviour analytic treatment approach utilizes principles of learning to resolve behavioural concerns as well as improve the adaptive functioning of individuals who approach us for treatment. With the ‘best treatment outcome for each client in mind, we rely on the scientifically validated procedures derived from applied research. We offer ‘comprehensive’ as well as ‘focused’ intervention options to our clients/families. We do offer other ancillary ABA training and development services to parents/carers and schools.
Most often our ABA services are utilised by parents of children with autism and other developmental delays and disabilities at their family homes. It is now widely acknowledged that home-based ABA interventions allow children to learn more functional skills at a relatively rapid rate and often has more lasting effects of therapy services. For therapists, it is easier to teach skills of daily living such as eating, playing, toileting, hygiene skills as well as language and communication skills in their natural environments.
Psychotherapy and Counselling Services
Seeking balance, harmony and meaning in one’s life is simply a human nature. We assist a wide range of people including those experiencing mental health issues, psychosocial problems, developmental disabilities and disorders to cope with life’s stresses and live in harmony with themselves and other, and achieve their therapeutic goals. We at Sunrise Behavioural Health considers biopsychosocial and developmental variables into our therapeutic practices to achieve better outcomes.
Behavioural Skill Training
We view individuals seeking our therapeutic support through our strength-based lenses and empower them with appropriate skillsets to improve their functional skills that enhance their quality of life and minimizes dysfunctional behavioural patterns. In achieving their functional skills acquisition goals, we utilise Behavioural Skills Training (BST). The BST typically involves multiple intervention components packaged together to address the skills -gaps in individuals’ repertoire which are often closely related to individual’s ability to live a meaningful life.
